Ted Nugent Almost SPIT on Me Once

That picture of Nugent below? When I was maybe 15 years old I was at a Nugent concert. I was standing right in front of him, maybe two feet away, and he hauls off and let's one fly right at my arm. I don't even think he saw me. I hauled my arm back just in time and this big glob lands where it had been about one second before. About about 20 seconds later some fool I went to high school comes flying off of the stage, courtesy of security, since he had jumped on stage and tried to grab Nugent's wah-wah pedal. This guy flew over my head. Then I find out later the guy I came with had disappeared, along with his girlfriend. Somehow, Nugent had invited both of them to the after-concert party. But me--nope. So I ended up bumming a ride home with some other friends. What a night.

This happened at the Meridian Ballroom at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Obviously, this was before Nugent was a big name. First it was the Amboy Dukes, the one-hit wonders who did "Journey to the Center of the Mind." Then it was "Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes." Then it was just Ted Nugent, and the Amboy Dukes disappeared. At that time Nugent had one well-known song--"Papa's Will." And that was the song he was playing when he almost hockered on me. Later, I found all the gargling and gurgling he did before his attempted expectoration on me was an inside joke. He and another band member were both sleeping with the same girl, and supposedly the sounds Nugent was making were supposed to be the sounds she made. Such is my first memory of Nugent.

I also noticed, that in addition to the long frizzy red hair, he has buck teeth.

The guy I had gone with, John, had the most unbelievable luck, unlike me.. Once, at a outdoor Who concert with 40,000 people, Peter Townsend smashes his guitar and throws it into the audience. Guess who gets the neck? Yeah, you got it. So not only does he get to go a party with Ted Nugent, he gets a part of Townsend's guitar!
