Edward Gorey

I have only one of Edward Gorey's books, and that is The Gashlycrumb Tinies, a macabre but funny little collection of drawings that can be used to teach children the alphabet. I used it on three kids, and they all turned out just fine. Not only that, they loved the book, right from the beginning, when I read, "A is for Amy who fell down the stairs/B is for Basil assaulted by bears..." And so on, to Z.
