Guillermo del Toto directed Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth. Before that he did The Devil's Backbone. Both Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone are Gothic horror tales, but they are also about one of del Toro's obsessions -- the Spanish Civil War.
These are not fun films, not in the slightest. They are truly horror films, but they verge on greatness. Del Toro is an amazing director, and the only one who intrigues me.
Posted by Bob Wallace, who doesn't have any backbone at all watching these movies.
