This movie is not without its charms, specifically the nifty '30s hot-rods and the jitter-bugging teenagers. The monster itself isn't evil, just hungry, and it's certainly not gigantic. It's just a regular Gila monster shot in close-up. It's as slow as molasses, too, which makes it improbable it could squish people with its paw -- a scene that made it into Mystery Science Theater. The hero is unbearable -- he sings, he plays, he has a sister who has braces on her legs (we all know who the monster threatens, don't we?). Forget the (yawn) monster -- just pay attention to the '50's hepcat proto-beatniks. Like, crazy, man!
