When I was a kid I was fascinated by Commando Cody, which was a little odd, since the episodes were made before I was even born. Somehow, he ended up on TV, and that's where I encountered him.
I once made a clay model of him for school. No one knew what I was talking about, especially the teacher.
I wanted that flying suit of his so bad I could taste it.

It's direct from Buck Rogers. The Rocket Suit and the control apparatus are both clearly drawn in 1929-30 in the Buck Rogers dallies. But the imaginary anti-gravity stuff that "falls upward" and makes rocket belts and jet packs possible to work ... "invertron" ... doesn't seem to get mentioned in the Rocket Man serials.
